Government funding for next Summer that you might be interested: Canada Summer Jobs wage subsidy.

Take advantage of this program if you are planning to hire employees next Summer. But you need to submit an application before hiring.

Not-for-profit employers can receive funding for up to 100% of the provincial or territorial adult minimum hourly wage and all associated Mandatory Employment Related Costs (MERCs). Public and private sector employers are eligible to receive funding for up to 50% of the provincial or territorial minimum hourly wage. Public or private sector employers are not eligible for reimbursement of MERCs.

Here’re some highlights of this program:

  1. Applications are due by December 19, 2024 at 11:59 p.m. Pacific Standard Time
  2. Funding confirmations will be sent to employers starting in April 2025 and will continue into the summer months
  3. The earliest job start date is April 21, 2025
  4. The latest job start date is July 21, 2025
  5. The latest job end date is August 30, 2025
  6. The latest date to submit a payment claim is 30 days following the completion of the last CSJ-funded job
  7. Provide full-time work experience in Canada between April 21, 2025 and August 30, 2025 for a minimum of 6 weeks and a maximum of 16 weeks and
  8. Provide a work experience in an inclusive non-discriminatory work environment that respects the rights of all Canadians
  9. Jobs must be full-time (minimum of 30 to a maximum of 40 hours per week)
  10. If a youth works over 40 hours per week, incurred costs for hours worked over 40 hours per week are not eligible for reimbursement
  11. Youth must
    1. be between 15 and 30 years of age at the beginning of the employment period
    2. be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment and
    3. have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations
    4. International students are not eligible participants

The reimbursement will only apply to the applicable provincial or territorial adult minimum hourly wage in effect at the time of employment.
